I have read that data mining is the process used to find new ,hidden
or un expected patterns in the data to predict the future of the
business & that data mining is based on various statistical
techniques .

what are the main statistical techniques used in data mining ....???

For a quick overview, there is my ANALYTICS & OLAP IN SQL .

Beyond that, get a good book on data mining; a newsgroup is not the
place to try to learn graduate level statistics.
