| Hi Roy, thanks for your answer. Is the presentation you mention available somewhere on the web ? I am on record here over many years as a Transforge sceptic but Neil Warnock did a presentation on it at the UK IUA 2008 Conference that persuaded me that it might have matured to the point where I would consider using it. Luminary will do a demo migration of parts of an ABF application for free, so it's easy enough to see what you would get. The finished result certainly has fantastic showroom appeal. I don't know of any ABF to Java conversion tool. -- Roy UK Ingres User Association Conference 2009 will be on Tuesday June 9, 2009 Go to http://www.iua.org.uk/join to get on the mailing list. _______________________________________________ Info-Ingres mailing list Info-Ingres-at-kettleriverconsulting.com http://www.kettleriverconsulting.com...fo/info-ingres |

If it's not there then I'm sure Neil Warnock would be happy to send it to you if you ask. His address is of the form firstname.lastname-at-luminary.co.uk. -- Roy UK Ingres User Association Conference 2009 will be on Tuesday June 9, 2009 Go to http://www.iua.org.uk/join to get on the mailing list. |

Hi Piotr, My name is Rich Smith and I work at Luminary - An Ingres Company. We have been speaking to a number of customers about the 'modernisation' of their ABF applications using Transforge and other related tools and processes. We have put these tools and processes (including Transforge) under the title 'Ingres Alchemy' which Neil Warnock has talked about in a number of his recent presentations, including the UKIUA 2008 one mentioned by Roy. Transforge can be used to convert ABF to 'thick' client OpenROAD, 'thin' client OpenROAD, or a combination of both. You can also apply a palette based approach to the resultant OpenROAD allowing you to have different user interface 'themes' but with a single codeline, for example high contrast and large fonts for users with vision difficulties. You can also expose parts (or all) of the application to the web or mobile devices using our SOA refactoring approach, again part of the Ingres Alchemy toolset. We would be happy to show you what's possible with your ABF application, and can even run a discovery report that (if nothing else) will give you a detailed picture of your current ABF app, i.e. no of frames, lines of code, 3gl procs, etc. We would then use this to produce an estimate the effort involved in the Transforge process (if that's something you would be interested in). This sample demo and discovery report is *free* as Roy pointed out, and if it's something you would want to pursue we can take this offline and discuss further. My email is of the form firstname.lastn...@luminary.co.uk I will also send you a copy of Neil's presentation seperately Regards Rich Smith |
