WORKING WITH PLUG-INS IN IBM LOTUS SAMETIME V7.5.1: TESTING AND
DEBUGGING PLUG-INS | Lotus developerWorks
Building IBM Lotus Sametime on top of IBM Lotus Expeditor lets you use
Eclipse
as a Plug-in Development Environment (PDE) to extend Lotus Sametime's
functionality in many ways. This article, part 3 of a four-part series,
shows
how to test and debug plug-ins. If you completed parts 1 and 2 of this
series,
you have used Eclipse to test an IBM Lotus Sametime plug-in through the use
of a runtime configuration. Part 1 provided you with the necessary settings
to make the runtime configuration work. Part 2 showed you how to develop the
BuddyNote plug-in from scratch. This article explains those settings,
allowing you to configure your own launch environments for any future
development. This article also covers the debug perspective that Eclipse
provides, plus the debug and development benefits of the EventLogger plug-in
provided in the IBM Lotus Sametime V7.5.1 Software Development Kit (SDK).

Eclipse as a
Plug-in Development Environment (PDE) to extend Lotus Sametime's

in many ways. This article, part 2 of a four-part series, shows how to

"Working with plug-ins in IBM Lotus Sametime V7.5.1: Configuring the Eclipse
environment," you learned that Lotus Sametime V7.5.1 is based on the rich
client platform, IBM Lotus Expeditor, which in turn is based on the open
source, plug-in model of Eclipse, which can be configured as a Plug-in
Development Environment (PDE) for Lotus Sametime. Part 1 walked you through
the configuration steps. In this, the second installment of the series, you
use the Eclipse workspace you configured in part 1 to develop the custom
plug-
in, BuddyNote, from scratch. If you skipped part 1, you can download and use

Windows Home Server off to production, gets new partners | CNET

Right on schedule, Microsoft announced that its Windows Home Server software
is off to the presses. This clears the way for HP, Gateway, LaCie, Medion,
and now Iomega and Fujitsu Siemens, (both also announced today, the
latter in
Europe only) to begin selling their Home Server-powered hardware later this
quarter. If you're unfamiliar, Windows Home Server is Microsoft's attempt to
solve the growing problem of fragmented media collections.

IBM buys DataMirror for data integration server | CNET

IBM on Monday announced it intends to acquire DataMirror, a maker of
real-time
data integration software, for about $161 million in cash. Markham, Ontario-
based DataMirror's tools are designed to trigger actions from information
stored in a data warehouse. For example, a retailer could automatically
replenish inventory based on sales data stored in a data warehouse. IBM said
that the software will be incorporated into its data integration server. It
is the 21st acquisition in IBM's information-on-demand strategy of making
corporate information more easily accessed and shared.

Beware Fake Domain Renewal Notices

Sometimes the goal is to steal your domain, sometimes just to steal
money from
you. But be very careful when you get a domain renewal notice; if it's not
from your registrar, it's not to be trusted. Thanks to the folks at Domain
Name Wire for blogging about a serious scam designed to steal money from
domain name owners. You could say it's a new sort of phish. Domain renewal
scams are not a new thing. Because whois information is public, unscrupulous
registrars have, for years, harvested the information in it and sent renewal
notices to unwitting customers of other domains. If you "renew" you actually
end up transferring the domain name and perhaps incurring additional
charges.

Could YouTube drag Apple into copyright fight?

Here's something that shouldn't surprise many people: The video
journalist who
has been in a closely watched legal tussle with YouTube is also peeved at
Apple. Bob Tur is famous in Los Angeles for buzzing around the city in his
helicopter and filming historical (and often bizarre) moments, such as O.J.
Simpson's slow-speed Bronco chase, oodles of high-speed police pursuits and
the beating of a trucker at the beginning of the Los Angeles riots. A
year ago
this month, he filed a suit against YouTube, claiming the company encouraged
copyright violations on its site. He's irked at Apple now because the new
iPhone has a feature that allows users to view YouTube videos.

Intel to join '$100 laptop' project | CNN Tech

The nonprofit that aims to seed the developing world with inexpensive laptop
computers for schoolchildren has made peace with Intel Corp., the project's
most powerful rival. The XO laptop uses very little power and can be
mechanically recharged by hand. The One Laptop Per Child program and Intel
said Friday that the chip maker would join the board of the nonprofit and
contribute funding. The nonprofit effort -- known as the "$100 laptop"
because
of the low price it hopes to reach with mass production -- has been
trying to
line up governments in several countries to buy the machines, which for now
cost $175.

IBM Visionary Wladawsky-Berger Steps Down | eWeek

Irving Wladawsky-Berger, IBM's vice president of technical strategy and
innovation, who led most of the company's big-bet moves into new technology
arenas, has retired. How do you say goodbye to a legend? Well, if you're
IBM,
you don't. You just let them "retire" and you continue to tap their
expertise
on a part-time basis.

25th anniversary of the computer virus? Not so fast | CNET

The Internet has been abuzz lately claiming we are in the 25th year of the
computer virus. And while many people believe a 15-year-old created the
first
virus in 1982, I'm not so quick to agree. After digging through some Web
sites
offering insight into the history of the computer virus, only one thing is
constant: Elk Cloner was not the first. Although some publications are
claiming the poetic Elk Cloner virus was first, a host of viruses were
ravaging computers in the 1970s. The world's first generally accepted
computer
was created by Charles Babbage and while many things are uncertain about its
design, one thing is not: no viruses infected it.
