How to split the datetime

I'm newbie in oracle and visual studio 2005...
my problem is:
i running a sql-query in visual studio 2005 with the oracle dataset..
currently my datetime is in format mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss..
i wish to split the datetime in dd/mm/yyyy only(without the hh:mm:ss)

SELECT
XNP_TIMER_VIOLATION.VIOLATION_TIME,..
