universe fixtool

This is a discussion on universe fixtool within the Pick Database forums in Other Databases category; hey all, on universe (10.1) it appears that fixtool locks the file (even if you do not use the -fix option). Is there a way to run fixtool (the help did not show anything) so that it just checks the file without locking it? Or is there another tool that you can use to check a file for errors while users are on the system? thanks, universe 10.1 on aix 5.2 dougc...

Default universe fixtool

hey all,

Or is there another tool that you can use to check a file for errors

Doug,

There are two simple ways to do a basic check on the integrity of a file:

>COUNT filename

or

>LIST filename F1 DET.SUP

The first command will count all the records in a file while the second
extracts the first field from each record which is a more thorough test.
You can also backup the file with the UniVerse backup program which will
check the file for problems. However, the backup program will lock each
group as it backs it up.
