Sqlserver licenses

This is a discussion on Sqlserver licenses within the sqlserver-datawarehouse forums in Data Warehousing category; Is it necessary to install sqlserver cal licenses on the server machine. We have purchased sqlserver standard edition with three cal We have installed sqlserver standard edition on a windows 2003 server machine and are experiencing problems with connecting to the server.We experience intermittent problems when connecting to the server.The server needs to be rebooted now and again in order to connect.This problem occurs even when trying to connect from the sever machine itself. Could it be that there aren't enough connections available....

Is it necessary to install sqlserver cal licenses on the server
machine.

We have purchased sqlserver standard edition with three cal
We have installed sqlserver standard edition on a windows 2003 server
machine and are experiencing problems with connecting to the server.We
experience intermittent problems when connecting to the server.The
server needs to be rebooted now and again in order to connect.This
problem occurs even when trying to connect from the sever machine
itself.

Could it be that there aren't enough connections available.

No. There is no connection limit. What does "problems when connecting" mean?
Did you get an error message? Did you check the SQL Server error log?

We are using Toad sqlmanager to connect to the database and it gives a
(general network error) when there are problems connecting to the
Database,while using Toad on the server.
