| You might want to do some googling, if the error is in fact BIDS, this requires VS 2005. As far as I can tell VS 2008 does NOT include BIDS. BI Development Studio is an extension of Visual Studio. What happens is that you end up loading visual studio and selecting a Report project when you click on BI Dev Tool. | I am seeing this as well. The weird thing is that I have successfully installed it on a machine with VS2008 SP1, and it was fine. But, no luck on my other machines. The only thing I can think of is that I installed VS2008 to a non-standard location on the machine that fails. I'm wondering if the installer freaks out because of that. May test this theory soon. If anybody else has any clues, let us know. The logs are of little use, and I'm not quite ready to dig through the installer package. | For me, I have confirmed that if Visual 2008 SP1 is installed anywhere but the default location, then BIDS installation will fail. The problem is a custom action Do_sqlCopyXML_64 expects the devenv.exe.config to be there and if it is not, it fails. The work around seems to be reinstall Visual Studio 2008 SP1 in the default location. I will report this.
