Default odbc connection hangs jobs on one server but not another

I have two sql servers and one aix/unix server.
server 1 - windows 2003 r3 running Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760
build 3790

server 2 - windows 2000 sp 4 running Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760
build 3790

server 3 - aix - unix running a propriety database which is used by a
software program called Luminx.

odbc driver - bd/c fs 3 driver ver 3.02 from bd/c software company.

server 2 has no trouble using odbc drivers to communicate to server 3 and
read the tables.

server 1 will have jobs hang when trying to read table from server 3 using
the same odbc drivers.
it will work fine for month then stop working.

I get no errors, it's as if the sql server is waiting for something and
never times out.
a job that should take 2 minutes to run will sit for days.
the sp_who2 only shows that the last command completed is truncate table
and the wait type is oledb and wait resource is claimfs3 ( a linked server )

I can not kill the jobs ( wont kill , stays in kill/rollback forever)
the only way to fix it is reboot the server.
did that sunday and on monday the problem was back.

Not sure what’s wrong.

tia
