SQL Server Domain Migration

This is a discussion on SQL Server Domain Migration within the sqlserver-server forums in Microsoft SQL Server category; We will be migrating several SQL servers (non-clustered) to a new Active Directory domain in a seperate forest. Default SQL Server Domain Migration

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi

Unless you are renaming the machine there should not be any problems. If you
do rename the server look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303774/en-us

You will also need to map sids for logins see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298897/en-us for changing the domain for the
logins.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. The KB article you refer to is used when a
database is moved to another server. My situation involves moving the
server itself to a different domain, the databases will not be moved.
Do I still need to map SIDS?

The method we are using for the migration involves migrating the SID
history as well for the users. So olddomain\user1 should match up to
newdomain\user1. Should that be enough for SQL?

Thanks.
