I think some higher-level SOHO switches support trunking, but not consumer-grade junk. Online technical submission: view case -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Case # 4992279 Problem Other Cause Question - Product Features Status Open 5/25/2007 3:28:00 PM I have a GS105 switch - for details, see: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/GS105.asp My question is this: Does this switch support trunking? I want to use Sun Trunking 1.3 and connect 4 cables from the server's quad-port 100Mg NIC to the GS105 switch. Will the switch automatically aggregate it''s ports and give me 400Mg full duplex? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5/25/2007 9:47:00 PM Dear valued NetGear Customer, Thank you for choosing Netgear. My name is Prashant & I will be handling your enquiry. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you. Regarding your concern, please note that GS105 does not support trunking. I hope this answers your question. If you need any further help please reply us back so that we can continue to work on a solution. Thank you for choosing Netgear. Even the little Cisco switches will do this, so it isn't a router-only feature. I've certainly got it working. > I think the quad ethernet card will work with SUN Trunking if you have a > suitable router. Correct, the qfe is most definately supported for trunking. -- | /\ ._ _|.__ | /--\| |(_||(/_ | email: andre at purplecow dot org |

You can use trunking with your qfe but not your switch. On the other hand, I believe that some cheap-o netgear gig-e cards have been used successfully with Solaris/SPARC, so you might be able to slap a cheap card in there and solve your problem that way. -- | /\ ._ _|.__ | /--\| |(_||(/_ | email: andre at purplecow dot org |

Now that's interesting. I've got an extra Intel Pro/1000 T pci card (better than cheap-o) I'd like to use. Didn't think it would work in a Sun sparc system... investigating... |

[6242612] Thanks for the clarification. As for getting it working, this is a work in progress... ....how to verify that I have the drivers? install/configure? |

[6242612] > My Sun Blade 100 recognized the Intel PRO1000T GigE NIC on boot and could be seen in prtconf -D as e1000g. There are a couple of patches: 123334-05 and 125120-03 that I installed (along with 107 others) with Sun's automatic updates feature (ran from CDE - not sure how to do this from cli). I plumbed the NIC like this: ifconfig e1000g0 plumb so far so good. But how do I get the NIC to plumb and come up on boot? Thanks. |
