I use my ISP's (Cox cable). I also have a (free) account on
motzarella.org.

Much better.

The only answer I would suggest is that there really isn't much difference
between any of the thumb drives. They all work. I've never felt a need
for this write-protect switch you mention, and in fact have never seen one
like that. I'd buy the cheapest one you can find at Wal-mart. They're
all the same.

Thanks for leaving the ranks of the Google Gropers.

Part of what I make my living at is removing viruses/malware etc.
from Windows machines. Windows viruses now jump from and to
thumb drives (you knew that was coming). Check out this link:

My office workstation is Cent OS 5 with XP-Pro and Vista
running as virtual machines.

Check out www.news-service.com. About $9/month (they bill in Euros, so
the monthly charge varies depending on the exchange rate). *Very*
reliable.

I can recommend you NOT to buy PQI as they have high % of bad ones.

FWIW, thread's over right there; there's no link from Dan C to realworld.

JMO; YMMV...

That's a pretty high rate. Especially for just usenet which is sort of
going to the way side with other web based forums and file transfer
protocols. Some ISPs don't even include nntp servers as part of their
connection package. (like AOL) Not that those that do provide nntp have
a reliable nntp server. And some linux discussion forums exist on their
own nntp servers. Like the HP printer / development forums.

The usb-stick topic does interest me. Since they're getting big enough
to actually consider using. I mean if a 1.44MB floppy has a write
protect tab, why can't/shouldn't usb sticks? Not that flash drives are
all that great with limited number of writes and such.

Yes. Newsguy charges $40/year.

People have been confidently predicting the imminent demise of Usenet for
twenty years now.

AOL dropping news was a real step forward.

I suspect that you do not fully understand how Usenet works.

It doesn't matter how it works. If it goes unsupported, or poorly
supported, it will eventually fall to the wayside. Even if that takes 40
years. But that's another topic for another thread.

Thank you! I was considering it.
