Given that we're talking about OSes, what other criteria would you use to determine which one is "better"? No surprise there. For example, being less susceptible to malware and viruses is one area where Linux is "better" than Windwoes. Why do trolls lie so much, I wonder? Why do they think that the stated opinions of a liar carry any weight? Ergo, why bother posting at all? Most illogical... |

Failing that, there's Solaris Express which is released every 2 weeks or so, and contains all the latest fixes. -- Rich Teer, SCSA, SCNA, SCSECA, OGB member CEO, My Online Home Inventory Voice: +1 (250) 979-1638 URLs: http://www.rite-group.com/rich http://www.myonlinehomeinventory.com |

They're > too cheap to spend money on hardware too. Crudely put but mostly accurate. Solaris shines on high-end SMP systems. Linux beats it on commodity hardware. Linux runs on more hardware and has better support for consumer peripherals, more ported software, more technical people familiar with it and able to support it (didn't used to be that way). There is nothing wrong with using Solaris if thats what you want, but I don't expect Sun will take back the low end server market from Linux, and they remain at risk of Linux pushing further up market and eating into their big multi-cpu server sales. That was my intention as OP. I posted in the Linux and Solaris NG. You are he first to mention Windows. There are no Windopes in this discussion. Incidentally, this is my humble opinion: - Solaris is technically better. - Linux has much more mass appeal. -Ramon |

Is the much wider availability of supporting personnel a technical argument? Is the Linux vs. Solaris *on the desktop* a technical argument? I am asking those questions seriously. -Ramon |
