I need a stable easy to use operating system. Linux is anything but that. Linux is the product of a million script-kiddies pounding on a million keyboards. Linux is Torvalds kernel built with and wrapped in GNU software. Think of it this way, GNU software; Good. Linux kernel: Bad |

Most OSS SW - "amateur and half assed". The exceptions being the obvious programs like Gimp, emacs, mplayer, firefox. The kernel is in the hands of very few programmers compared to the big sourceforge projects out there creating "yet another irc client, or Linux distro. |

You prefer Solaris, that's fine, but don't slag off Linux just because it doesn't suit you. There's a reason more people use Linux. It's better. > of a million script-kiddies pounding on a million keyboards. Linux is Not even slightly as *you* describe it. Script-kiddies? Are you ignorant, stupid, or just totally malicious? > Torvalds kernel built with and wrapped in GNU software. Think of it > this way, GNU software; Good. Linux kernel: Bad Linux kernel: Excellent. GNU software: great. Linux distros: priceless. -- Kier |

Since lienux is free it's infinitely better than anything that costs more than a dollar. Technically Solaris blows the doors off of lienux. The only drawbacks are limited device support and Solaris requires decent hardware to run well. Most of these lienux guys pride themselves on running some lightweight distro on a 350Mhz Pentium II that they pulled out of a dumpster. They're too cheap to spend money on hardware too. > > -- > Rich Teer, SCSA, SCNA, SCSECA, OGB member > > CEO, > My Online Home Inventory > > Voice: +1 (250) 979-1638 > URLs: http://www.rite-group.com/rich > http://www.myonlinehomeinventory.com |

Well, you just blew yourself right out of the water there, pal, because I recently spend the best part of two thousand pounds on computer equipment, all to run Linux on. -- Kier |
