If you're only interested in a newsreader and don't need the advanced features of Agent, Pan would be an option. But since Pan doesn't handle email, and I prefer to have it all in one package the way it is with Agent, its not an option for me. I have given it a look but didn't install it when I set up a different partition arrangement for Ubuntu. |

Beware of sibling rivalry! 8-) Actually, that's not fair, though it is somewhat funny. Linux seems to have its roots in Andrew Tannenbaum's Minix, while *BSD has its roots in the Jolitz port of Net/2 to the 386. One could point to them as examples of convergent evolution. Far enough back they might share a common ancestor, but it's in the intellectual realm, not code. As time passes, they do seem to share more characteristics. bob prohaska |

Ok, I've just given up on Pan - couldn't stand it any longer. I'm now running Agent under Wine. If this post makes it out, I won't be switching back! Graham |

I'm using Agent on this desktop and have been for a month or so, whenever I started with Ubuntu and learned enough about Wine to get it running. I thought I was going to have to invest in Crossover Office. So far, on the desktop anyway, everything I wanted to have running under Wine does so (only a few programs). |

Good question, and the answer is likely to be no, but I am not sure of that. It's old enough that I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case (1999 vintage, but average for that era). |

Certainly things like MMX (did the PII have any MMX ?) have grown a lot since first being introduced. A compile from source making sure no flags or config options are set to assume anything newer than a PII will probably help a lot. -- C:>WIN | Directable Mirror Arrays The computer obeys and wins. | A better way to focus the sun You lose and Bill collects. | licences available see | http://www.sohara.org/ |

Can you compile something like this on a faster computer for the slower one if you make the selections in the questionnaire for the slower one, or does it need to be done on the same computer it will be used on? |
